THE LEGITIMATE FAMILY
NEW RECRUIT STANDARDS
What we expect, what we measure, and how you move up — regardless of which Family faction you're in.
ABOUT THE FAMILY
The Legitimate Family is a network of seven factions led by Legitimate Business (LB) — a Platinum-ranked faction that invented defensive ranked war strategy, pioneered AI-powered faction tooling, and treats optimization as doctrine. This page, this site, and the tools on it are all powered by NEXUS — LB's intelligence system, built to give every Family member access to the same data-driven approach that drives the flagship.
New recruits often start in LSD (the training faction), but you may have landed in RotR, DD, TWC, or even LB itself depending on timing and roster availability. Torn's ranked war system locks faction rosters during active wars, so leadership sometimes places recruits wherever there's an open slot. If you're happy where you are and you're meeting the standards of the faction you're in, there's no pressure to move. Every Family faction shares the same Discord, the same leadership network, and the same expectations.
If you do want to transfer to a specific faction, head to #nexus-transfer-request in Discord. You can request at any time, even if the destination faction is mid-war — that way you're queued up and ready to move the moment the roster opens. Check faction availability ↓ to see who's open right now.
THE PHILOSOPHY
The Family doesn't believe in rigid checklists. Torn is a sandbox — there are a hundred ways to play it well, and we're not going to pretend there's only one path. Some people grind attacks. Some people build empires on the item market. Some people master the crime tree. Some do all of it.
What we care about is trajectory. The two things that matter most are straightforward: your level is going up (which happens naturally when you're active — if you're playing the game, you're leveling), and you're generating respect for the faction. Everything else builds on top of that foundation.
! WHY RESPECT MATTERS
RESPECT = FACTION POWER
Every time you attack someone and win, you earn respect for the faction. Respect isn't just a number on a scoreboard — it's the currency that powers faction upgrades and perks.
The more respect we accumulate, the more faction perks leadership can unlock for everyone: faster gym training so your battle stats grow quicker, higher chain bonuses that multiply rewards during wars, steadfast which gives passive stat boosts, and other upgrades that compound over time. Every member who generates respect is contributing to a shared engine that makes everyone in the faction stronger.
Higher-level attacks against stronger opponents generate more respect. As you grow, the value of every hit you land grows with you. Your personal progression and the faction's progression are the same thing.
1 NON-NEGOTIABLES
These aren't suggestions. Every recruit must hit all four. They exist because without them, nothing else works.
JOIN DISCORD REQUIRED
Get into the Legitimate Family Discord and get plugged into comms. This is how we coordinate wars, share intel, answer questions, and build the faction. If you're not in Discord, you're invisible to leadership and to your teammates.
HIT LEVEL 15 — UNLOCK FLYING REQUIRED
Level 15 unlocks international travel. Travel unlocks the entire economic engine of the game — flower and plushie runs, abroad items, hunting, and a massive expansion of what you can do. Before L15, you're playing a limited version of Torn. After L15, the real game starts. Get here as fast as you can. See the quick-start guide below.
Grind attacks, crimes, and gym. If you're stuck, ask in Discord.
GET DONATOR STATUS REQUIRED
Once you can fly, earning enough for donator status is straightforward. Donator unlocks critical quality-of-life features — extra energy, company specials, and tools that make everything more efficient. You can buy it with in-game currency — no real money needed.
It takes real effort — expect a couple of weeks of dedicated flower and plushie runs — but it pays for itself many times over.
SHOW REGULAR GROWTH REQUIRED
Leadership watches four signals: net worth trending up, level progressing, battle stats growing, and activity in faction comms. You don't need to top a leaderboard. You need to be moving forward.
Flat for weeks = conversation. Flat for a month = the slot goes to someone who'll use it.
⚡ GETTING TO LEVEL 15
Your roadmap for the first stretch. The goal: get battle stats to ~1,000 total, then start hitting targets for XP.
THE PATH TO FLYING
1
Rent a Mansion immediately. This is the single most important thing a new player can do. Your property determines your
maximum happiness, and happiness is a direct multiplier on your gym gains. A Shack gives you barely any happy. A Mansion gives you enough to train meaningfully. If you can't afford rent,
ask in the Discord — the faction will front you the cash. Don't train from a Shack.
2
Train at the gym to ~1,000 total battle stats. Spend energy building Strength, Speed, Defense, and Dexterity until you hit roughly 1,000 total. This is the baseline that lets you reliably win fights. See the More Happy = Faster Training section below for how to get the most out of every energy point.
3
Use crimes to fill dead time. When energy is low, spend nerve on crimes. Crimes earn cash, build your skill tree, and keep you productive between sessions.
4
Start attacking for XP once stats are ready. With ~1,000 stats you can hit leveling targets safely. Use
oran.pw/baldrstargets — it finds the best targets for your level and stats so you're not guessing or wasting energy on fights you can't win. Bookmark it. Use it every day.
5
Once you're leveling, put all your energy into attacks. This is important: gym training raises your battle stats, which changes your Fair Fight multiplier and can actually lower the respect you earn from your current targets. Once you've hit ~1,000 stats and you're leveling, go all-in on attacks. Pay attention to the respect you generate per hit — when you find good targets, keep hitting the same people to maximize it.
6
Hit Level 15. You can now fly. The game opens up. Start running flowers and plushies to build your networth and work toward donator status.
😃 MORE HAPPY = FASTER TRAINING
This is the mechanic most new players miss. Happiness is a direct multiplier on your gym gains. Training with 500 happy gives you dramatically more stats per energy point than training with 50 happy. Every point of happy matters, especially at low stat levels where the multiplier has the biggest impact.
Step 1: Get a Mansion. Your property sets your maximum happy. A Shack caps you at almost nothing. A Mansion gives you a meaningful baseline that regenerates passively. This is why renting a Mansion is the very first thing you should do — it changes every single gym session from that point forward. If you can't afford rent, ask in Discord.
Step 2: Eat candy before you train. Lollipops are cheap (buy them from the city sweet shop) and each one gives you 25 happy plus 30 minutes of booster cooldown. Eat as many as your booster cooldown allows before hitting the gym. This is called a happy boost — you temporarily push your happy above your property's base maximum. The key: your happy resets back to your property max every 15 minutes (at :00, :15, :30, :45), so eat your candy and train immediately before the next reset.
Step 3: As you can afford it, upgrade. Better candy (Big Box of Chocolates), Erotic DVDs, and eventually ecstasy all push happy higher. The more happy you have when you train, the more stats you gain per energy. This is why experienced players plan their training around happy — they never just dump raw energy into the gym without boosting first.

💬
Need help getting started? If you need money for a Mansion (better gym gains) or basic gear to start attacking,
ask in the Discord. The faction supports its recruits — there's no shame in asking, and getting you set up faster benefits everyone. Don't grind in silence when a quick message gets you equipped and moving.
2 THE SANDBOX — PROVE IT YOUR WAY
Beyond the non-negotiables, the Family recognizes many forms of contribution. What matters is that you're active, your level is climbing, and you're generating respect. Here are the other signals leadership watches — you don't need all of them, but the more that light up, the faster you advance.
⚔
COMBAT DEVELOPMENT
Are you fighting? When you're leveling,
maximizing your win rate is key — use
oran.pw/baldrstargets to find smart targets. But not all losses are bad — experimenting with temporary items, pushing harder targets, or taking swings during war are all signs you're learning the game. Context matters more than the raw number.
We see: win/loss ratio, kill streak, ELO, highest beaten
⛓
CRIME GRIND
Nerve is free energy. Crimes build your skill tree, generate cash, and keep you active throughout the day.
We see: total offenses, crimes/day, skill levels
💊
ENERGY CYCLING
Xanax, ecstasy, LSD, energy cans — the drug + energy economy is the single biggest accelerator. Daily xanax = 2–3x faster progression. Ask in Discord if you don't know where to start.
We see: xanax used, ecstasy used, refills — and ODs
✈
TRAVEL & TRADE
Flower runs, plushie runs, item flipping — this is how you build networth and fund progression after L15.
We see: travel count, items abroad, market revenue, NW trend
🏆
WAR PARTICIPATION
When your faction goes to war, showing up matters. Group attacks, self-hosping, chain watching — wars generate respect and earn faction rewards.
We see: war hits, assists, availability, defense
💰
ECONOMIC GROWTH
Networth going up means you're building something. Company job, bazaar, item market, property upgrades — all valid.
We see: NW, property, company job, market activity
💬
COMMUNITY
Asking questions, helping recruits, sharing knowledge. Teaching someone how to self-hosp is worth more than 10 extra attacks.
We see: Discord activity, faction mail, mentoring
📚
GAME KNOWLEDGE
Education, contracts, racing, merits — systems that compound over time. Awareness of these signals depth.
We see: duke contracts, education, racing, awards
WHAT GETS YOU REMOVED
This isn't about how many hours you play. Some days you log in, hit the gym, and go about your life — that's completely fine. What matters is long-term progression through smart play. The things that actually get people removed: not logging in for several days without explanation. Not participating in Organized Crimes — you should always be in one. Not reading faction newsletters — they exist for a reason and contain information you need. Chronic underperformance with no signs of improvement over weeks. We don't do warnings and meetings — if the pattern is clear, the roster slot goes to someone who'll use it.
That said, life happens. If you need to step away, just let someone know. And if you do get removed, the door isn't closed — everyone is welcome to reapply for a second chance.
3 MOVING UP & TRANSFERS
Every Family faction is part of the same network. The goal isn't to keep you where you are forever — it's to develop you and get you into the right faction for your play style and level. When you're ready to move up, or if you want to transfer to a specific faction, head to #nexus-transfer-request in Discord.
📡 FACTION AVAILABILITY
All seven Family factions at a glance. Green means open for recruits. Red means roster-locked during an active war — you can still request a transfer via #nexus-transfer-request and you'll be queued for the moment it opens.
Status as of March 21, 2026 • Updated each war week
